GromBiz

Well the first time I saw the GromBiz trucks was on Discovery channel. I thought they looked cool but didn’t really care for the springs on the original truck, then I didn’t really hear anything more about them. At the Maryhill Festival of Speed I saw their booth and checked out the new and improved GromBiz trucks - they got rid of the spring and had a bushing made. I talked with both Bens, super cool guys, and we talked about the bushing and how they performed on Maryhill.  As we were taking down our booth, I started talking to Ben again and asked if he wanted to trade a bamboo dancer for a set of trucks when they were available. So last week we got a package in the mail.

We were stoked to try these trucks out. Danny and Zak grabbed the box and opened it.

It was cool to finally check them out, there were some extra axles in the box that you just screw onto the other axel to give you longer axels.  Cool concept.

Now we had to find a board to mount them up and give them a try.  We grabbed a Komodo put on the longer axels and got ready to ride.

We pushed it around in the shop and since it was dry outside we headed out for a ride.

We adjusted the trucks to differnet angles to find a nice carving set up.

We tried a few different angles and then headed down the hill in front of the shop. The trucks carved nice, they felt solid and turned quick.

Danny and I took it for a few runs down the hill and then back to work.

We rode them a few more times and then the Oregon winter started and it hasn’t been dry since.

I want to get out on them some more and try some other angles and see how they hold speed.   Once we get some nice weather I will post an update.

Nelscott tow-in classic

On 11-30 it was a go for the Nelscott tow-in classic. So me and my 2 older boys headed for the beach. It was suppose to be clear skies and 65 degrees and 30 foot waves.

I have surfed on the Oregon coast for years and this was the first time I had come down to watch tow-in surfing. Most people are surprised when I tell them I surf in Oregon then even more surprised to know that we have some really nice waves and during winter some really big waves.   The day started slow because of fog but it slowly burnt off and the sun came out and it was nice and warm, for the last day of November.  Because of the fog it was hard to get good pictures but you get the idea on size of the waves.  Click on the image to see my pictures of the event.

You can check out more info about this event at www.nelscottreef.com there are also some great pictures there.

You heard it here first!

The Historic Maryhill Loops Road first ever Freeride!

March 28 and 29, 2009

This will be a weekend of riding the most famous longboarding hill in the world. This event is open to the first 85 to 90 riders who sign up and pay the $105 (via paypal). If you cannot do paypal please contact me at senor_palmer@hotmail.com for other payment arrangements. The signup date will be January 4, 2009. Signup will be open until all the spots are full. Look for further details before the signup deadline.

This is not a race and there are no prizes, spectators or camping. Just a closed hill with hay bails, EMT’s safety workers and shuttles. The first shuttle starts at 9am and goes to 5pm. There will be 6 man heats spaced about a minute apart. We will try and get as many runs as possible each day.

Leathers and a full face helmet are required.
There will be NO SPECTATORS!!!!! If you are planning on coming with friends, girlfriends, boyfriends or a parent and they want to get onto the property, they must be signed up in advance and they will be put to work as a driver or a course worker. There will be no one allowed on the property that is not on the list.

ANY UNAUTHORIZED PERSONS WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE PROPERTY AND, IF NECESSARY, THEY WILL BE ESCORTED OFF THE PROPERTY BY THE LOCAL SHERRIFF AND CHARGED WITH TRESSAPSSING!

There is a need for about 14 to 20 coarse workers. THe course workers will not be paid but will be allowed time on the hill throughout the weekend and after hours.

A crew of 4 or five will be needed for about 4 hours of work on the Friday before to lay out the hay and on the Monday afterwards to clean up the hay. Again helpers will be the only people to ride the hill on those days.

The attendance is limited to insure the riders get the maxium amount of time on the hill (we expect between 10 and 15 runs a day) but still cover the large expense of renting the hill, EMT’s and everything else it takes to put this event on.  If you sign up and pay THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS! You may be offered a credit for a future event.

If you sign up as a voluniteer and do nto show up you will be blacklisted from all future Maryhill Ratz events. The idea is to keep this event small so the riders can get the most runs they can. Any course workers who sign up and do not show up put the whole event at risk. If you sign up please be serious.

Leathers and a full face helmet is required. If you are found to be riding ANYWHERE on the property without a helmet you may be asked to leave.
There is no smoking of anything on the property.
There will be no alochol consumption by participants in the event.
THe events organizers and the workers are GOD. Thier word is law. Give them grief and you may find yourself escorted off the property without a refund.

That goes for all the rules, you break em and you may find yourself being asked to leave and if someone does not want to leave the Sherriff will be called.

If the sherriff has to be called for any reason charges will be filed by the race organizers.

This event is open to all skill levels so these rules will be strickly enforced to insure the safety of all linvolved.

Cousre workers will be required to sign a waiver and those under 18 will have to have a waiver signed by thier parent or guardian.

Dreamin’ of Mary…

I am finally healed and ready to skate but the weather is not cooperating. I can only Dream, well that and work on my new helmet (look for future posts on this projects). I tried to go out the other night but people thought it was a personal choice not to wear a helmet, so I made a personal choice not to skate with them. I don’t want the responsibility they want to place on me for the sake of looking cool.

Anyway the real reason for this post is to see who is reading this blog.

Look forward to the first ever Maryhill Freeride on Saturday & Sunday, March 28 and 29, 2008. This is a legitmate event with hay, EMTs and shuttles. There will be no organized race or events just lots of time going down our favorite girl. This will be open to the first who sign up and pay. Only a limited number of people will be allowed, so keep your eyes and ears open for the details, coming soon.
