First post at LBL

Here is my first blog and thanks to Larry for making this and so much more possible.

For the Northwest Longboarder fall is normally a tough time of year, it is wet and cold, two things that I personally avoid while longboarding. This has been a banner year for the weather, mostly dry and not too cold, very comfortable riding weather. Unfortunately I am nursing a WWI injury that will not heal and to top that off the local meth heads stole my leathers, helmet and my tool box with spacers wheels and STIMULATORS!!!! All the necessary stuff that is so hard to replace. No better time to replace gear, clean out bearings, bushings and in general tune up the equipment for the next available ride.

It is amazing to see how this sport has blown up in the last couple of years. With so many events it is hard to choose which ones to make it to. I am saving now for next summers events. Ditch Slap is forever a favorite along with Vernon, Sully, Mary, WWI and all the other NW events, keep them coming! It is a great time to be a longboarder.

Skate safe and ALWAYS wear a helmet.

Three Cheers for Larry & Longboarding!

Hey everyone,

Sal from Team Funkapotamus here. Just dropped in to say we’re really excited and very grateful to be a part of this blog. Thanks for inviting us!

We’re looking forward to helping spread the stoke in whatever way we can, wherever we happen to be. Even though we’re entering the off season (aka winter) here in Chicago, we’ll still be scouting for longboard friendly parking garages and holding board building seminars to give members of the Chicago Longboard Society some insight into the process involved in making the deck under their feet. We’ve also got plans for another race along the lakeshore paths and a huge scavenger hunt around the city come spring/summer time, so if you live within commuting distance of Chicago be sure to check the Society out.

My brother and fellow Funkapotamus, Danny, also just finished cutting a new fall video that features the LBL Komodo. I’ve linked it below. Hope you like it!

Cheers!

p.s.

Larry, Laura, the new boards you posted look awesome! The new Tarpon is insanely light and the giant banana Humu is styling. hehe, I really like the Chiquita Banana-esque LBL logo, too. I can’t wait to see more media.

ORANGATANGS LIKE BANANAS

After pressing up a new giant humu, Cory Poole mentioned to Larry that it looked like a giant banana.  Danny and Larry decided that it was great idea and made a giant banana.  I love it, what do you think?

Top mount Hollow core

Well I said I would post a picture of the top mount hollow core Tarpon this week. So here it is.

This is the latest and final version that will be up for sale on the website. This board weights 3 pounds, the drop thru version will be under 3 pounds.  As soon as I decide on the graphics for the bottom I will post them on the website. I hope to have have some Munkae trucks to take pictures and of course offer on the decks.

This is a carbon fiberglass deck with a hollow channel down the middle and foam on the sides. It does have slight bit of damping to it also to help absorb road vibrations. More info to come as I get everything ready to post on my site.

What is new in the shop.

Well we have been hard at work building boards but we are always looking for ways to improve our boards also.  Recently we have changed the concave on the 48″ kick. We made the concave deeper in the middle of the deck and it gets flatter toward the nose. I wanted more concave in the middle for more grip and to keep the concave mellow at the nose for doing manuals.

Also made some adjustments to the Komodo. Gave it a longer nose and wheel wells in the front.

Still working on the screamin mary but it is coming along great.

The Tarpon Hollow core will be available soon on my website. Just layed up the latest version a top mount that weighted in at 3lbs. I will get some pictures taken and post pictures of the top mount later this week.

Hats off to Larry…

I am proud not only to be a part of this blog…but to call Larry a friend. He’s passionate about skateboarding and a really generous guy. You can sense that he makes each one of his decks with pride.

I am not sure where this blog will take Larry, but where ever it winds up, I am sure it will be a good place. Thanks for inviting me, Larry and best of luck with all that you do!

cheers

Michael
